A ruck is formed after the ball carrier is tackle to the ground and two players of opposing teams are in contact standing over the ball competing for possession.
The players part of the ruck have to stay on their feet and are not allowed to touch the ball with their hands. The last foot of a player in the ruck defines the offside line.
All other players have to retreat behind the offside line.
